The start of Spring means it’s time to get out to the Alps for road cycling. The Portes du Soleil is home to some of the most famous and beautiful mountain passes and exceptional climbs, long or short. Morzine, Les Gets and Avoriaz are nestled in the heart of the Portes du Soleil, one of the most famous regions in the French Alps. You can access a vast number of routes across 3 valleys and 2 countries. It’s the paradise of the road cycling! French-Swiss passes, Tour de France routes, steeper mountain cols for experienced riders, or just simply take in a tour of lakes and mountain restaurants. There is something for everyone…
ON THE “ROUTE DES GRANDES ALPES”
Morzine-Avoriaz is located on the Route des Grandes Alpes, amagnificent 680 kilometre tourist route linking Lake Geneva to the Mediterranean, passing through the most beautiful passes in the Alps.

Circuits can be done both ways. The recommended way has been decided as the most suitable in terms of effort distribution and landscapes.

For those bringing their own bikes over, there are a multitude of bike friendly hotels, most having secure bike storage and some with bike wash areas. There are also many cycling shops for quick repairs and servicing with incredibly helpful staff.
Spring cycling offers a much more tranquil setting with less tourists and quieter roads making it a more personal cycling experience. Of course in summer the cycling is equally as good and if you’re planning to come in July, the Tour de France will pass through Morzine and Les Gets, so both towns and the region will be buzzing with tdf atmosphere and a wide range of activities to experience. Including visiting the start stage and catching a smile from your favourite tour riders if your’e lucky!
