Speciality Food and Drink - Morzine

There’s nothing nicer than indulging in gorgeous traditional mountain food, or “Savoyarde’ fayre…. Not only in the delectable selection of restaurants and bars, but the speciality food shops. Here are 2 exquisite local speciality shops you must visit.

L'Alpage – La Fruitière de Morzine

“Established in 1983 on the road to La Plagne near the center of Morzine, we are local cheese producers of fresh products. Our farm shop, L'Alpage, is located on the same site. We offer direct sales of cheeses matured on-site, as well as yogurts, flans, and fromage blanc made by us using milk from a local farm in the valley. You will also find raw milk and block butter, along with a wide selection of cheeses from the region and surrounding areas, primarily sourced from farm producers. We have also selected sausages, hams, and charcuterie made by hand in Haute-Savoie, some of which come from farmers who raise their own pigs. The shop also offers other regional products such as homemade jams and fruit preserves, Savoy wines directly from the winemakers, honeys (sometimes harvested in Morzine by the beekeeper), canned prepared dishes, herbal teas made from plants harvested in the mountains, artisanal chocolates, and many other specialties!”

Speciality cheeses include: Morzine Reblochon (pictured below), Cheese Abondonce (Top left). Speciality saucisson include the Saucisson de Beaufort (top right) There are so many more to choose from, including a saucission infused with Genepi. If you like regional mountain delicacies, this place is a dream. They also produce most products onsite and you can book a tour. Highly highly recommended.

Distillerie du Père François

A local family run distillery with original oak casks from 1943. It was a delight to see all these exceptionally good locally produced drinks, which would also make great gifts. We have an interview coming soon to understand more about the company’s background and more in-depth understanding of how the alcohol is infused using the local products. If you can wait for that, in the meantime take a look at their products here… I am sure you will agree, these look like a must buy.

The selection of drinks, is fab. Morzine Gin! Or as they call is ‘Morz’Gin’, Citron Liquer, Genepi, Sapin, Pear, Prune and Apricot Schnapps. Here the word for ‘‘Schnapps’ is Eau du Vie, which translates to Water of Life. Which I am not so sure it is exatly that, however, on a freezing cold day it will certainly warm you up. They also have these cute mini bottles, so you can: Buy to try, give as a gift, or put in your pocket for later. We think the mini’s are perfect presents.
