5 Mins with: the trash tones

Morzine, Les Gets, Avoriaz and the surrounding area is home to some remarkably talented people. We’ve recently sat down with the rock band The Trash Tones to hear more about them, their inspirations and what’s next.. Let us introduce you!

If you haven’t already seen them live, The TrashTones are a 4 piece rock band; left to right; CJ lead guitar, VK drummer, Richie Lea bass guitarist and Alex R singer and guitarist. An international mix of English, French and Swedish musicians, they’ve been performing together for around 4 years in the region, you might have seen them live, in venues such as Les Tilleuls in Le Biot , Bar National St Jean, Le Coup de Coeur in Morzine and Barbylone, L’Après Ski Bar and on the stage at Alam Bike in Les Gets.

Of course as a rock band, their playlist of covers is exceptionally good and draws a big crowd, but what you might not know, where they really stand out is with their original music. The band write and record all their own material, with a studio in Morzine, with of course breathtaking views of the mountains which they say does help inspire them and influences their music.

“We are best described as rock. We also think we might be the only band in the area that writes original material. We stress BAND because there are a couple of solo artists here who also do originals.

Meeting up regularly to create their music, its usually Alex who comes up with the initial writing, melody and chords, with the group then adding to it, to complete to song. With CJ now also getting in to writing more, the band recently on a tour in the UK and a new EP coming, you can say they are rocking and looking forward to the winter season. Listen in here: ‘Winters Coming..’

Whilst here for our interview, thought we’d ask the band what their favourite places are in the region, so heres a quick fire round of questions. Quite poignant too , considering we live in such stunning surroundings, it go to come through in the music right?! So, here goes; favourite places in the region, by the Trash Tones:

VK: Les Gets Bikepark, for the fun trails, the great view from the top of Nauchets and a lot of fun there with the trails

Richie: Montriond Lake, for a great walk, and of couse its the only place local you can’t hear CJs guitar ( aww we love CJ’s guitar!)

CJ: The view from Mont Caly, the local (downhill) trails in Les Gets and the mainline black run on Pleney in Morzine.

Alex: Not one particular place as it’s all so beautiful around here, but my heart belongs in St Jean D’Aulps

“This year has been so good. After a successful UK tour we are now planning our next one and are currently recording a new EP. We’d love to see you at our next gigs, so check us out on our socials and give us a follow to stay up to date. We also share all the news about our upcoming EP release there too. We really do appreciate your support!” Alex R.
