Lac des Mines d'or.
One of the must visit lakes in Morzine and Les Gets. Situated 15 - 20 minutes from Morzine town centre and nestled perfectly in the valley surrounded by vast peaks, your eyes wlll thank you for a veritable feast of views in every direction. Getting there via a variety of options, drive, road bike, e-bike, or and this is our favourite, take the free bus! The Pleney bus stop in the centre of town runs approximately every hour in season, which cruises through the mountain road via Nyon cable car on the right handside. Apart from the bus being so easy, it gives ample time to take in the sights on the way there and usually a freindly jolly chat with the bus driver who can update you with all sorts of interesting local info. Whilst the dirver isn’t a tour guide, ours was so friendly, it was a real bonus to be able to chat to him.

A little bit of history…. There are a few reading points, dotted around the lake which provide some interesting facts about the formation of the peaks surrounding and the wildlife to be found. We loved seeing the abundance of bright blue dragonflies, which were so difficult to photograph! They also explain how the peaks were formed hundreds of millions of years ago and the types of fossils you may find.
